Biography
Rashed Khan Menon is a political legend of Bangladesh. He is the Chairman, Workers Party of Bangladesh and a Member of the National Parliament of Bangladesh.
Born in 1943 he graduated from Dhaka University with a degree in Economics and achieved his master’s degree in 1964. He was elected as Vice-President of Dhaka University Central Student’s Union (DUCSU) in 1963-64. Mr. Menon joined politics through anti-martial law student movement of 1962. He took part in the liberation war in 1971 as well as in all political movements against the military rule of Bangladesh. In 1990, he played the catalyst role of uniting the democratic movement against General Ershad’s autocratic military rule and established the Liaison committee of 8-party, 7-party and 5-party Alliance.
Menon was elected as parliamentarian in 1979, 1991, 2008 and 2014. In 2013 he took oath as a Minister, Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the All Party Government to conduct the 10th National Parliament election. In 2014 he took oath as Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism.
He is the author of many books and writes columns and political commentaries in newspapers regularly.
